Poinsettia

 hoi allemaal,

Poinsettia (poinsettia) is one of those flowers that really belongs to Christmas. I think it's a beautiful flower , that's why I chose this sweetheart from Sylvia Zet / Whimsy Stamps to color. I colored her with Copic Markers.

Did you know that a very old flower species and that this flower was already admired by the Aztecs are called the flower Cuitla-xochitl. In 1804, naturalist Alexander von Humboldt first brought the plant to Europe. In the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries the sap was used as a cure for fever, and red paint was made from the bracts.

But the best you know about this plant is the Mexican how the poinsettia got its name.

The poor child Pepita, who could not buy a present to give to Christ on Christmas night, picked some weeds in the roadside and made a small bouquet. The child was told that a humble but lovingly given gift was acceptable in the eyes of God. In church, the bouquet began to blossom with red and green flowers, and the congregation considered this a Christmas miracle. From then on, the poinsettia in Mexico was called Flores de Noche Buena.
